Daylight Saving is coming to a close...
... and I'm getting ready for it now. I've decided to start deprogramming SP's inner clock. Her inner clock is set for her to wake up at 5:30 am nearly everyday. Not such a huge problem now, but in a week or so 5:30 am will actually be 4:30 am. SP waking up at 4:30 am nearly everyday will be a huge problem. Here's my deprogramming plan:
- start doing her daily routines (meals, naps, bathtime) one hour later than normal
- put her down to sleep at 9:00 pm instead of 8:00 pm
- pray to God that she sleeps through the night and wakes up around 6:30 or 7:00
We did this yesterday, and she went down to sleep no problem. But then, she never has had a problem going to sleep. It's the getting up that's the problem. She slept until 6:00 am this morning. Next week that will be 5 am. I am really, really hoping that by next week her inner clock will be reprogrammed.
Or is this just wishful thinking? What about all you mamas and papas out there? What have your tricks been in past years? What do you plan on doing this year?

We've done the "try to deprogram early" thing and it doesn't usually work. But then again, we've never started a week ahead of time either. My kids, right now, are waking around 6:30, give or take. Yes, this will be 5:30 next week, but I also think, pushing the routines to their post-clock change times will work itself out in just a few days. At least it has with H in the past. But he's (surprisingly) more flexible with bedtime and wake times. W, on the other hand, loves to be an early bird, so I may have a problem. My theory is that, if he won't switch, I will decide to make R get up with the kids and I'll go to the gym. Then at least I'm getting something productive done at that hour. :)
No advice, just sympathy. Most kids seem to adjust within a week or so. Sure, its hell for that week, but they do reset themselves. Remember, also, the days are still getting shorter, so the increased darkness will help. My kids seem to sleep more in the winter and less in the summer.
Oh, GOSH, I HATE daylight savings time! It was merely an annoyance before I became a parent but it is a major stressor now! I have absolutely no good advice but lots and lots of sympathy! (-:
Ohhhh. I hope the same for you. Cripe.
